From Home is a fascinating read for those wanting to relive and discover stories of life in Atholl and those who wish to explore the area more, as well as being a perfect coffee table companion for anyone interested in rural Scotland and photography.

The project also aims to help people across Scotland to remember the value of community and what we have on our doorstep. Rural Scotland’s beauty is found not only in its landscapes, but also in the stories of people who make their lives there, and From Home makes the time to listen to these stories and champion them. Many members of the community in Atholl have been involved with the project, which has acted as a connection between people who were previously becoming disconnected as times changed.

A true lover of local nature and tradition, Julie approached me a few months back asking if I would contribute to a book she was planning to write, titled From Home. The book would be a compilation of local people’s stories... Mostly I think of their younger days living in the village. Although I doubted if my stories would be worthy of such a book, I was more than happy to oblige. Today, the book is about to be printed. Like many in the village, I look forward so very much to opening the pages and starting to read...” - Neil Mackintosh, Blair Atholl resident and contributor to From Home, on what it means to be involved with the project.

From Home is a self-published book by Julie M Cumming documenting the social history of Atholl through interviews with its residents.
